Lutheran Hostel & Redeemer Church Compound

Year
1990s
Location
Muristan, Old City of Jerusalem
Role
Architect
Lutheran Hostel & Redeemer Church Compound

From the architect's notes

The compound is split by David Street, joined by a bridge above it. To the north, attached to the Redeemer's Church, are the beautiful Crusader cluster, the Bishop's home and a Capella we repaired. To the south is the Lutheran Hostel.

Excavations beneath the Hostel reached bedrock — upon which Jerusalem's Second-Temple wall had been erected — and found that the building was tilting dangerously. Together with the contractor Spiegel, the foundations were reinforced, the Hostel redesigned and its rooms upgraded.
